Air Cadet League of Canada Elects New National President. OTTAWA, ON. – The Air Cadet League of Canada recently elected Joe Johnson, former 1st Vice President of the Air Cadet League, to the position of National President at their Annual General Meeting held this year in St John’s NL. Johnson, on accepting the appointment, stated that “It is an honour and a privilege to lead such a dedicated group of volunteers while working for the finest youth group in Canada”. The newly elected President added that “My objective is to follow through with the League’s Strategic Plan Update in implementing the approved strategies for the betterment of the organization, and to make available new, League-sponsored opportunities for our cadets”. Joe Johnson is a former member of No. 66 Fort William Squadron RC(Air)C and an active member in the Air Cadet Program since 1980. Joe is also a founder of NorMaxx Financial Group, a financial services company. He and his wife Pauline live in Thunder Bay, ON and have two children and two grandchildren. The Air Cadet League of Canada is a non-profit organization which operates in partnership with the Department of National Defence in support of the Royal Canadian Air Cadets. It is estimated that in one way or another 500,000 Canadians are involved in the Air Cadet program today.
CLARK, DOROTHY H. … Dorothy Helen Clark of Saint John, wife of the late Major William H. (Knobby) Clark, passed away on Friday, June 19, 2009 at the Ridgewood Veteran’s Centre. Born at Saint John on February 25, 1912, she was a daughter of the late Walter W. and Elizabeth H. (Coyle) Belyea. Dorothy was a veteran of World War II, serving with the Royal Canadian Air Force, receiving the British Empire Medal. In her early years, she was employed as an accountant for Mitchell Franklin and was later employed at the Provincial Hospital as an accountant for many years before her retirement in 1977. She was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd, the Pythian Sisters, and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #69, as a life member of the Air Cadet League of Canada, the 250 Wing of the Royal Canadian Air Force Association and a life member of Branch #69, Royal Canadian Legion. Dorothy is survived by one son, William “Billy” Clark of Saint John; a step-son-in-law, James Mazerall of Ottawa; three grandsons, William Clark (Beth), Patrick Clark (Jody) and Jonathan Clark (Aimee); two great grandchildren, Ryan and Jamey Clark; six step-grandchildren; twelve step-great grandchildren; four step-great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Dorothy was predeceased by a stepson, Robert P. Clark; step-daughters Elise Mazerall and Grace Connor and her husband Harry Connor; and one sister, Lillian G. Belyea. Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, with visiting on Sunday from 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held on Monday at 2:30 PM from Brenan’s Chapel. Interment will take place in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery, Field of Honour. A Royal Canadian Legion Veteran’s Tribute will be held on Sunday evening at the funeral home.
